Well, kids...it's official. The big winner of the Frenemies ARC giveaway is...Sherry! I have to confess, I thought about rigging the contest—possibly leaving out people who were already getting an ARC from me or whatever. But then I thought, No, whoever wins this thing will win it fair and square.
And even though there are all kinds of digital tools that would allow me to perform a random drawing, I did it the old-fashioned way: I wrote the names on twelve slips of paper...I folded them neatly...I placed them in a cool little box...I closed my eyes. I was so nervous/excited! And then...I picked...SHERRY. Sherry? Sherry! YIPPEE!
Seriously, there are several reasons you should be excited for Sherry—even though the fact that she's a winner makes you, well, a loser (I meant that in the nicest possible way). Here are my top three:
1. Sherry is a giver. She basically started her blog in order to win books—but not selfishly. Nope, she's doing this pay it forward thing, a la this interesting blog. So, Sherry isn't the only winner here. In fact, maybe you'll be able to score the book from Sherry next—meaning you will no longer be a loser. How fab-tastic is that?
2. Sherry's entry post about her frenemy moment was really great. Check out the first few lines: "I can't ever remember a time where a close friend stabbed me in the back. I think it's because of two reasons: my friends overall are pretty sweet, and I have a very limited group of people who I let in so close that they have the aptitude of hurting me in such a manner. It could also be that I'm a very oblivious person." Ha. You know I love me some self-deprecation!
3. "Oh Sherrie" is a good song. Yeah, yeah, I realize the spelling is different, but it's pronounced the same—which is why, ever since selecting Sherry's name, I cannot get this song out of my head. And while this may not seem like a great thing (watch the video below for proof), at least "Oh Sherrie, our love...hold on, hold on" has now replaced The Wiggles' "Hey, do the Captain's wavy wa-a-alk," which had been threatening to take up a permanent spot in my brain for the past week. (Thanks, Jack.)
So now, to ensure you don't leave this contest without winning something, here—for your listening and viewing pleasure—is the super-excellent, eighties-beyond-belief "Oh Sherrie" video in its entirety. Break out the lighters and tell me: Do you feel like a loser now? (Compared to Steve Perry, anyway?)
[Ohmygod...final fun fact: This was shot at the Park Plaza in downtown L.A., where I got married! Dude. Righteous!]
