Sick and Happy (Plus Signed Faketastic Contest!)

The illness has finally claimed me. Yup. I’m really feeling the aches and pains today (which seems to happen at least once during cold and flu season, especially when you have a kid)—so I’m taking a sort of “personal day” while my son is at school. I’ve canceled my lunch and dinner plans (sad, but had to be done), I’m not going to work (much) and I’m just going to take it easy…chick-flicks, bad TV, a little light reading. That’s it!

So, even though my throat is sore and my body’s aching, I’m kind of happy. Sometimes the silver lining of being sick is that you’re FORCED to take it easy and let yourself heal. Right? Another reason I’m happy: More great reviews for FAKETASTIC! A huge thank you to all the lovely readers who are not just enjoying the book, but letting people know about it. Take a look at what they’re saying, here:

Teens Read Too: Five stars!
Mrs. Magoo Reads: A-minus!
Harmony Book Reviews: 8.5 out of ten!
The Frenetic Reader: 8 out of ten!

I can’t tell you how important it is for us authors, especially during these uncertain and trying times, to have people spreading the word about the books they’re enjoying. If you haven’t heard how bad things have gotten, check out the latest news about HarperCollins. I was also devastated to hear that my dear Alloy editor, Nora Pelizzari, was let go last week due to downsizing. Of course I know she’ll land on her feet because she’s a phenomenally talented woman—but it’s bad out there people. Just BAD!

So, um, yeah…clearly it’s not ALL happy news here today. But I will NOT get sucked down into a self-wallowing hole. Nope. Not me. With a little R&R and some trashy entertainment…happiness will prevail!

And now I think I’ll end this post with the ever-popular “How about you guys?” Seriously. What do you do to rise above the tough times? Leave a comment and I will enter you to win a signed copy of FAKETASTIC! Contest ends one week from today.

XO

I listen to songs that remind me to keep my chin up. For example, Keep Faith by Matt Wertz. And I have friends and family to help me through the bad times. =]

When I run into tough times I write. Blogs, journal entries, short stories, poetry, songs. That kind of stuff.

When I am having a tough time I tend to read a good book or watch a favorite movie.

Hugs on being sick. Since we've all had the plague at my house (okay, not really the plague, but it FEELS like it), I hope you feel better REALLY soon.

During tough times? Lots of feel-good reads/movies/tv. Spending time with my family and friends.

Hope you feel better! And YAY for good reviews! I should be starting Faketastic soon, so there's another good review (hopefully!) coming your way. (:

PS. Watch 13 GOING ON 30 or LEGALLY BLONDE--those are 2 of my favorites!

I talk to friends or blast some music. Music is a good release.

I have a playlist on iTunes that pumps me up when I am feeling down. I also like to read some good books, see my sweet niece, and hang out with friends. Depending on the situation, of course.

What I do to rise above tough times....act crazy in my fourth period class. Yup. That's what I do. I draw my classmate as turtles during that time. Oh! And write to the custodian to throw away this piece of paper I was allowed to tape onto my teacher's computer. Except they won't throw it away now, but they threw away the last one that I wanted to keep! =( And I scream and start dancing. I also start bothering my friends, by asking them weird questions. I start singing too! Yup. I go crazy. =) It's really fun. And stress relieving! WOOT!

Hmm... I guess I go and listen to music, or play music, or write. And of course, hanging out with friends always cheers me up :)
