I know I'm sinking into a total pit of teenie fandom here by (gasp!) posting about "American Idol" again, but I just can't resist. See, unlike the rest of the firing squad last night, I think Kris Allen's performance was flawless. Talk about the worst REVIEWS ever...and, in my humble opinion, ones that were totally unwarranted; the poor guy got the most negative comments of the final four, including Kara's “You’re definitely the softer side of rock...for me, this was not a great performance,” Paula's “You need to have a little more energy," and Simon's “I actually didn’t like it that much. It was rather like eating ice for lunch.”
Granted those aren't the harshest words ever said to a contestant, but they were the worst of the evening and I just have to say...really? I felt like Kris did the Beatles' "Come Together" complete justice and then some. There's just a perfect understated swagger to this guy--something that may not seem perfect for "rock night" until you really think about what "rock" actually means. I understand everyone has their own definition (and with Slash as the night's mentor there were obviously certain expectations), but Kris is totally a rock guy. It doesn't have to be gritty, glossy or hysterical. I would (and will) totally buy this kid's album over the other remaining contestants...any day. If only I could have gotten through on the phone lines to vote for him. (Uh huh. I actually tried.)
In other TV news, don't even get me started on how much I'm loving "90210." But OMG...I'm obsessed. I'm even going to go so far as to say I like it better than "Gossip Girl" now. Perhaps I'll post a love letter to that show next week.
Going back into my cheesetastic hole now. :)
